Medical Brigade Receives Unique Contribution

The Medical Brigade recently received a unique contribution from the daughter of one of the physicians on our Remote Village Project. Money that was generously given to this young lady as a Bat Mitzvah gift was used to purchase 100 books, all written in Spanish, for the Santa Maria del Valle orphanage in Valle Bonito. Molly came up with this particular idea, on her own, because of her love of reading. She realized how lucky she was to be able to go to a library (or bookstore) to pick out anything she'd like to read, and she wanted to give these children a similar experience. The children in the orphanage range from less than 5 through 19 years of age and the books chosen, including early reader books and books for young adults, will allow all the children to benefit. Where possible, books with Spanish or Latin American authors, initially written in the Spanish language, were chosen.

Molly adds, “I love to read and I think everyone deserves to enjoy the gift of reading. When I read a book that I really love I can sit in one place for hours and just read. I want to give the children in Valle Bonito, Honduras the chance to lose themselves in a book the way I do. Some day I hope I can visit the orphanage to meet the nuns and the children who live there.”

Thanks Molly!
