OPTICAL CARE

Things are dire for optical care in Honduras, where access to quality eye care is limited or non-existent.

  • In many rural areas of Honduras, there is a severe shortage of eye care professionals, leaving many people without access to even basic eye care services.

  • Lack of access to eye care services can lead to serious and sometimes irreversible eye conditions, such as strabismus, that can significantly impact a person's quality of life.

  • The VHC Medical Brigade's Optical Care Project is working to address the urgent need for improved access to quality eye care services in Honduras by providing essential eye care services to underserved communities.

Our Work

Our Optical Care Project is committed to providing sustainable, long-term solutions to address the eye care needs of underserved communities in Honduras. With a team of dedicated ophthalmologists, we offer a range of services including eye exams, glasses fittings, and treatment for cataracts and other eye conditions. For patients with more serious conditions, we schedule surgeries during our annual surgical trip and provide follow-up care to ensure their continued recovery. Our approach is rooted in collaboration with local partners and community members, allowing us to identify and address the unique eye care needs of each community we serve. We believe that access to quality eye care is a fundamental right and are proud to be part of a sustainable solution that makes this a reality for those who need it most.

Empowering Children Through Vision

Our Optical Care Project is dedicated to improving access to essential eye care services in underserved communities in Honduras. One of our top priorities is providing eye care services to children, particularly vulnerable to untreated eye conditions.

We understand how important eye care is to all aspects of life, especially education. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to see clearly and thrive in school and beyond. By addressing their eye health needs, we are improving their vision and empowering them to reach their full potential.
