BARRY BYER, MD
FOUNDER & PRESIDENT EMERITUS


Since 1999, as the founder and President of the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade, Dr. Barry Byer has led teams of dedicated healthcare professionals and support staff to Honduras to meet healthcare needs of some of the most underserved people there. Under Dr. Byer's leadership, the Brigade has brought sustainable interventions and healthcare solutions to families and children in Honduras from clean water, surgery, physical therapy, medicine and antibiotics, and healthcare education.

Dr. Byer has been an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Georgetown Medical School. He retired in 2012, after 40 years of practicing medicine in Falls Church and holding the position of the Chief of the Department of Family Practice at Virginia Hospital Center which he held since 1980.

Dr. Byer was founder and Medical Director of CrossLink International, a Falls Church based non-profit humanitarian aid organization that had supplied and equipped medical mission teams and hospitals worldwide from 1994 to 2013 when the organization was acquired by Brother’s Brother Foundation, the 37th largest charity in the USA. For over 50 years, BBF has been a provider of thousands of global medical missions and Don disaster relief.

Dr. Byer has received numerous recognitions & awards for his mission work from Falls Church City, Falls Church Chamber of Commerce, Medical Society of Virginia and the University of Miami.

Dr. Byer and his wife Sharyn live in Falls Church. Their son, Leland, is a medical doctor and their daughter, Lauren, and her husband Ken Burke, Jr., and their children, Kenny, Carter and Elizabeth live in Houston.
