  • Honduras Communications Officer, Comayagua

    Job Description / Scope of Work (SOW)

    Summary:

    The Communications performs communications and fundraising from Honduras. The primary duty is to visit field programming, and create communications materials and campaigns to inform, motivate, and raise funds from our strong community of (mostly US-based) volunteers and Board Members. A secondary duty is to support the US and Honduras teams in donor research, donor database management, and other tasks as needed. The ultimate objective of the role is to raise funds that enable the work we do.

    Role Details:

    This is a hybrid role based in Comayagua, Honduras. Around 70% of time is remote work, while some in-person work will occur in Comayagua, La Paz, and rural towns around Honduras. The selected candidate must be able to manage occasional travel inside of Comayagua city on their own, and must be while the employer will help with travel to rural areas around Comayagua and La Paz. The Officer will need to live in or near Comayagua or La Paz.

    The Position reports directly to the Executive Director in the US, while working closely with the Director of Operations in Honduras and the Communications & Marketing Manager in the US. Only candidates with English and Spanish fluency and with permission to work in Honduras will be considered. The monthly salary will be around $900-1,000 USD (converted monthly to Lempira), depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The role is full time (plaza permanente), but experienced candidates who prefer work by project (por proyecto) may be considered as well.

    Background:

    The VHC Medical Brigade is a small, not-for-profit non-government organization (NGO) with programming in areas around Comayagua, Honduras, and a headquarters in Virginia, USA. We are a health and development NGO dedicated to serving Honduras' most vulnerable communities. Our Rural Development Program focuses on providing clean water, healthcare, and education through rural clinics and schools. Our International Medical Program aims to improve health infrastructure in Honduras.

    Primary Duties:

    Content Generation (40%)

    Study and learn about the work that the Brigade performs, and the communities we serve. Communicate the Brigade’s work to the donor community

    Work with Honduran team to review programs and interview beneficiaries to identify successes and new content sources

    Create written stories, social media posts, videos, or other media showcasing the impact of the work and the need for the work we do

    Develop or help format videos, infographics for reports, and visually appealing materials

    Write reports, messages and answer information requests as needed.

    Update the website and other online profiles

    Travel to our programs areas, including remote mountain locations in Honduras, primarily in the Comayagua and La Paz areas (in coordination with field team)

    The Communications & Fundraising Officer is welcome to propose other projects that support the Brigade’s mission

    Fundraising Research and Database Management(40%)

    Learn how to use at least two software programs, including a website editing software (SquareSpace) and a donor database (DonorPerfecT).

    Work with our databases and other sources to identify and engage new donors. Do research to match donors to work that interests them

    Help solicit major gift prospects, corporations & foundations, and other donations

    Help develop fundraising strategy and plans, including campaigns, appeals, and calendars (with assistance from Executive Director and others)

    Write content for website, donor communications, and communications materials as needed

    Organize fundraising data, contact lists, and media content

    Medical International Trip & Event Support (10%)

    Support up to three international visiting teams per year. Help the Honduras Director of Operations as needed in trip preparations.

    Capture stories and post social media during trips

    Provide verbal English-Spanish translation

    Arrange or support occasional special events as needed (Up to one meeting, training, or conference per year, in collaboration with team)

    Other Support (10%)

    Occasionally prepare graphics or training events

    Occasionally support field programming, reporting, and grant writing, warehouse organization or other teams as needed

    Occasionally work with volunteer experts on special projects as needed

    Minimum Requirements:

    Fluent written and spoken English is required

    Bachelor's strongly preferred

    Access to broadband internet and strong computer skills required

    Willingness to travel to rural, mountainous areas around Comayagua is required

    Desire to help develop low income communities is required

    A willingness to carefully study and understand the work we do, and why we do it is required

    Also Preferred Qualifications:

    Degree in in communications, language, marketing, communications, or fundraising is a plus Experience in video editing or graphic design skills a plus

    Experience in database management a plus

    Volunteer experience a plus

    Ability to attend occasional evening meeting or special events is expected

    Ability to walk at least 30 minutes in rural, mountain areas is a plus

    Owning a car or motorcycle is a plus

  • ASISTENTE DEL PROGRAMA DE AGUA, HONDURAS

    BRIGADA MÉDICA VHC (VHCMB)

    Ubicación de la posición:

    Buscamos personal que viva en la zona de Monte Cierros de Comayagua, cerca de El Portillo de la Mora. Sólo se tendrán en cuenta las personas que vivan en esta zona.

    Descripción del Puesto:

    El Asistente de Programa apoya al Director de Operaciones en Honduras, incluida la supervisión de tres clínicas rurales y trabajadores de salud comunitarios. Esta persona reporta al Director de Operaciones.

    Responsabilidades:

    Implementar Proyecto de Agua Limpia Rural (55%)

    ● Movilizar, capacitar y apoyar a las juntas comunitarias de agua

    ● Realizar pruebas periódicas de la calidad del agua; monitorear el funcionamiento general del sistema hídrico y la idoneidad del suministro de agua; trabajar con juntas de agua y fontaneros para abordar los problemas identificados

    ● Reunirse periódicamente con las juntas comunitarias de agua para discutir las operaciones del proyecto de agua y realizar capacitación periódica.

    ● Apoyar a las juntas comunitarias de agua para identificar problemas, planificar reparaciones u otras soluciones.

    ● Ayudar a las comunidades con transporte o compra de cloro y materiales de reparación de fuentes en Comayagua

    ● Ayude al Director de Operaciones a planificar y supervisar renovaciones o proyectos de agua importantes ocasionales. Trabajar con expertos técnicos y comunidades locales para preparar e implementar proyectos que incluyan la participación/contribuciones de la comunidad.

    ● Redactar informes mensuales que identifiquen las actividades realizadas, los problemas que requieren atención y los resultados de las pruebas de calidad del agua.

    Apoyo a la higiene, nutrición y educación de las escuelas rurales (15%)

    ● Proporcionar capacitación y educación escolar a toda la comunidad sobre el uso de agua tratada, higiene, letrinas y saneamiento.

    ● Tome muestras de agua para probar los niveles de cloro y la calidad del agua .

    ● Coordinar y liderar la distribución de medicamentos antiparasitarios en las escuelas.

    ● Asistente del programa de salud de apoyo para realizar un seguimiento de las tasas de desnutrición de los niños o realizar otras actividades en las escuelas.

    Informes, referencias y otro soporte (10%)

    ● Apoyar el apoyo médico entrante, como médicos voluntarios, campañas de vacunación y formadores.

    ● Ayudar en encuestas de hogares, seguimiento, evaluación y recopilación de datos según sea necesario.

    ● Ocasionalmente apoyar al Asistente del Programa de Salud en trabajos de salud comunitaria.

    Apoyo al Programa de Salud Rural (10%)

    ● Servir como trabajador de salud comunitaria.

    ● Participe en capacitaciones para trabajadores de salud comunitarios

    Apoyo a Almacén y Brigadas Comayagua (10%)

    ● Ocasionalmente Conduce un vehículo VHC para transportar personas y mercancías.

    ● Ayuda con almacén, envío e inventario.

    ● Ayuda a las Brigadas visitantes con transporte y logística.

    Experiencia educacional:

    ● Vidas cerca de Portillo de la Morra

    ● Capacidad para conducir una camioneta y/o una motocicleta en terreno montañoso.

    ● Experiencia trabajando o viviendo en comunidades rurales.

    ● Experiencia en fontanería, reparación de sistemas de agua o similar.

    ● Habilidades para construir relaciones

    ● Fuertes habilidades de comunicación verbal y escrita.

    ● Capacidad para utilizar la computadora y redactar informes.
